Why I'm Running for Congress.
We were all promised if we worked hard and played by the rules that we would have the American Dream.   We were raised to believe if we supported our country it would support us with boundless opportunities.

Those in Congress and our current Representative have rigged the game against us.  Everyday new favors are turned into laws and regulations that take away the American Middle Class Dream.   They are taking away Health Care, Public Education, jobs and fair wages.  They are even taking away the dignity to retire.

Let’s face the truth – people are living pay check to pay check. We are struggling to put food on the table. We are struggling to pay our bills and have a safe, secure home. Our schools, roads and bridges are crumbling. Teachers must work two jobs just to survive.  Everyone is working harder and harder.  Thousands in our community are facing healthcare crisis almost daily.

Washington D.C. politicians are only protecting the American Dream for the very few not the Middle Class.   Our representative, is not invested in our community  His interests are with the Washington Elites and their money.  Just look at his donors and you'll understandy why his votes are for them.  Not for District 13.

Investment starts local.  After my military service in the U.S. Navy I returned with nothing but the experience and lessons I learned while serving my country.  So, I pulled my boot straps up and I started a small business in the community.  I created good paying jobs and my business thrived.  I am connected to my home and this community.

It all changed.  Our elected representatives passed laws to favor monopolies and crush small businesses.  It made it harder to compete, innovate and hire new employees. The military never trained me on how to lay-off employees.  It was heartbreaking.  They were just like me, married, owned homes and had families.

I wish my story was unique, but it is not. We have all watched our congress pass bills that send the jobs of NC District 13 overseas, crushing innovation, destroying our American Dream. Those jobs are lost to large corporations and mega-mergers who don't have loyalty to their communities and are driven by greed.  Yet our current Representative wouldn't understand this.  He only knows how to listen to Big Money, not “We the People.”

We've seen our representative and D.C. politicians support Big Money and ignore small and mid-sized businesses. The engine of our economy. They have ignored the working class, sacrificing their voters for greed. It is time for that to end.  We need a change
!

NC District 13 needs:

  • Good Paying Jobs: In District 13, People over 70 are not retiring. This is just unacceptable. We will fight for Jobs & Wages.  We must fight for a living wage for working people.  We must bring good paying jobs back to district 13.
  • Skills to get Good paying Jobs: We must invest in our workforce, provide training for the skills necessary to create a growing economy. Community colleges can provide that training.  A skilled workforce attracts job providers and innovation. We need the tools to be successful. We need to invest in the people of District 13.
  • A Good Education: We must secure the American Dream and provide the foundation that every citizen needs, a good public education.  No more war on public education.  We must fully fund our Public Education system.  We are in the 21st century.  We must invest in our schools and teachers so they can educate and train a work force for 21st century jobs.
  • Freedom from Illness: Our Representative has voted to take away Health Care away fro District 13 citizens and has voted against lowering Prescription Drug prices after he said he was working to lower Prescription Drug prices.  We must fix the Health Care system so all of us can be healthy and receive treatment. Healthcare should not be only for the wealthy. We can no longer live with the fear that one illness can take everything from us and our family. We should not have to choose between food or keeping a roof over our head and lifesaving medication.
  • Veterans: We can no longer ignore our Veterans.  As a Navy Veteran, it is shameful how our Veterans are treated by our Government after the service, sacrifice and blood they have given to defend our great nation.  We must champion better benefits and programs to keep the promise we made to our Veterans who took the oath to serve.
  • Repair our Crumbling Infrastructure: Our infrastructure has been neglected. Our public investment has been given away to special interests and not used to ensure we have heat in our classrooms, clean drinking water and bridges that aren’t falling. Using our share of public investment to repair it will create good paying jobs and attract businesses that provide more good paying jobs.

I am a veteran and a small business owner.  I am a father, son and husband.  I'm part of the working middle class and have spent my life working to achieve the American Dream, only to discover that our Congress is rigging the game against us.  North Carolina District 13 can no longer afford a representative that won’t even hold town halls to listen to us.

District 13 needs a representative in congress who will look out for the average American family. A representative that will fight for the middle class. We need someone on Capitol Hill who is one us and will fight for us. Not turn his back on our community and country.   It is time to elect someone who will represent the Working Class and that is why I am running.
