Scott's involvement in his community has energized and renewed the hope that government can work for the many, not just those at the top. His service to our country is grounded in his working class upbringing.
Scott grew up in the small southern railroad town of Spencer, NC. His mother Carolyn (now 84 years old) is a single mom who raised 3 kids from the "tips" she earned as a truck stop waitress. She had no hourly pay. Yet during Scott's youth, his family never realized the struggle of their mother. It was her strength that lifted her children to succeed.
As a young man, Scott graduated from North Rowan High School before serving as a North Carolina Governor's Page twice under then-Governor Jim Hunt. He went on to serve in the United States Navy and achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class working in communications. He served two terms in Washington, D.C. while for the Joint Chiefs & the Naval Communications Center. During his second term, Scott also served temporary duty at the military liaison office for his hometown representative, Congressman Bill Hefner. After military service, Scott was excited by the growth of the "information super highway." He risked everything to start a technology business, growing it to over 3000 customers and creating jobs. His business did not qualify or participate in one single government tax break. However, the anti-competitive behavior and regulations passed by Congress in favor of big multinational corporations hurt his business. |
IT'S TIME TO STEP UP
Scott's motivation to step up and speak out became apparent when his daughter at 10 years old became worried about her friends in school after the 2016 election. Scott became a community leader, serving on the Mecklenburg County Democratic Board of Directors. He rallied his community to participate and speak out about the polices and direction of our nation. He and fellow supporters held town halls, raised billboards, and engaged their members of Congress.
Scott's involvement in his community has energized and renewed the hope that government can work for the many, not just those at the top. His service to our country is grounded in his working class upbringing.
Scott believes our government can be fair and good for all of us.
