Scott Huffman, grew up in the small Southern Railroad town of Spencer NC. His mother worked as a waitress at a local truck stop to make ends meet for his older brother & sister. Scott's Uncles who are tradesman, carpenters, painters, metal workers taught him to use his hands and tools. This taught him to respect hard work and the rewards of it.
Scott graduated from North Rowan High school in 1980, having played sports including Varsity football and track & field. He also participated in school actives and clubs. His favorite was the Science Club. Scott also served as a North Carolina Governor's page not once, but twice for one of his heroes, Jim Hunt. Upon graduation and unable to afford college, Scott enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1981 and for more than seven years, he saw a million places and faces. He received military training to become a Radioman, Communications Specialist. He was sent on four deployments, including support of NATO Joint Task Groups and U.S. Navy operations in the North Atlantic, Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea & Indian Ocean. During his enlistment, Scott was recognized for his leadership and can-do spirit. He was awarded the Navy Achievement, Navy Expeditionary and Good Conduct medal. He also received three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) and achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. When Scott returned home, he didn't have a job waiting for him or family business to work in. So, after working various odd jobs and scrimping and saving, he started a Home Improvement business. By 1995, excited by the growth in the “information highway”, he sold his business and risked everything to start a technology business. He grew that business to over 3000 customers and ultimately created jobs. Not from Tax Breaks, but from offering a good product and working hard to deliver services to his customers. Along the way, another dream was fulfilled, well actually two. He married Karen, a UNCC Graduate, a NC Teacher who he met in 2002. Then he became a father. Together, they have three children. A daughter, and two sons. Scott is ready to serve as your next District 13 Representative. |
